Suitability assessment for electricity generation through renewable sources: towards sustainable energy production

نویسندگان

چکیده

Power generation through renewable sources is an effective alternative to mitigate climate change as its environmental impact lower compared fossil fuels. However, socio-economic problems are constant in sites where power plants installed, especially developing countries. In this paper, innovative methodology was developed assess the suitability of electricity solar, wind, and biomass energy. Unlike most studies found scientific literature, work considers social, environmental, economic aspects key determine energy projects. First, we carried out a comprehensive analysis on social acceptance resilience towards conditions for communities benefit from these projects; then, analyzed availability capacity Mexico, case study. Next, set indicators related three pillars sustainability each place with best resources country. The life cycle factor technology were also considered. Lastly, mathematical model suitable locations technologies generation. results show trend states northern those bordering United States, viable appropriate wind Finally, Oaxaca, state current leader Mexico is, by contrast, least generation, has been later confirmed evidence, facilities associated severe socio-cultural damage host state.

Competition in Electricity Markets with Renewable Energy Sources∗

This paper studies the effects of the diversification of energy portfolios on the merit order effect in an oligopolistic energy market. The merit order effect describes the negative impact of renewable energy, typically supplied at the low marginal cost, to the electricity market. We show when thermal generators have a diverse energy portfolio, meaning that they also control some or all of the ...
